The Best Panties for Your Butt Shape
Knowing your general body type is helpful for a number of reasons. It can help you narrow down clothing options when shopping and ensure you are accentuating your very best features all the time. Did you know that determining the shape of your booty can also help you out? Yep, you read that right. Your behind has a shape, too!
I need to be real here for a second: all butts are beautiful and deserve to be treated as such. While it's something you might not often think about, knowing more about the specific shape of your butt can come in handy, especially when it comes to deciding on lingerie, jeans and, most importantly, panties that accentuate your beautiful behind. No matter how much (or little) coverage you like when it comes to underwear, there are great options for every shape. Read on to learn about the best panties for your butt shape. I share the different butt shapes and my top underwear picks for each of them.
Shopping for underwear used to be a troublesome task because of the seemingly endless number of options. It used to be my least favorite item to shop for because I'd just end up buying the same exact pair every time without thinking about what would work best for my behind.
In addition to an array of cuts, styles and materials, I was also faced with the task of choosing something that was comfortable enough to wear all day and wouldn't show through my clothes. I added to the chaos by adding in other underwear options reserved only for certain occasions like lounging, working out and date nights. It was a lot to fit into my tiny underwear drawer!
Thankfully, I learned about my unique butt shape and started shopping for underwear accordingly, which helped me narrow down my underwear inventory to a smaller range of styles. Now, my undies feel great regardless of what I'm doing and they make me feel constantly more confident body-wise. It's totally possible (and easy) for you to do this, too! It all starts with knowing the different types of underwear for women and how they fit on five common butt shapes.
One thing to know is that your butt shape and your overall body shape are not automatically synonymous. Just because you identify with a “V” shaped body shape doesn't necessarily mean your booty is also that shape. Start by taking a look in the mirror. Have a good look at your booty as well as how it looks when compared to the size of your thighs, hips and waist.
Chances are, you'll notice an overall booty area shape that resembles a pear or “A” shape, a square, a heart, an inverted triangle or “V” shape or all over rounded shape. These five common shapes are the keys to knowing what underwear will fit you best and hug that booty in all the right places.
P.S. — A rule that applies to all those women who want their butt to look rounder and perkier is to look for panties, regardless of their style, that have the gathering or seam between the cheeks to achieve a more enhanced appearance.
But don't forget that everyone is unique! You might identify with more than one butt shape and that's totally cool. If so, try out one or two cute underwear styles from each description and see which one makes you feel most comfortable and confident. Let's dive into the best panties for your butt shape now!
Best Panties for Your Butt Shape: Pear
Hello, my beautiful pear-shaped peaches! If you identify with this booty shape, you probably have a smaller waist that moves into a curvier, more voluptuous set of hips and thighs. It's a gorgeous shape that really accentuates the beautiful curve of your hips in leggings and jeans. Also known as the “A” shape, the pear shape is traditionally characterized by a gradual widening towards the bottom of the butt area.
In terms of a great fit, I like to start by explaining what that really entails. Much like swimwear bottoms, the perfect panty requires a tighter fit where you need it, and not where you don't. When it comes to a butt with a pear or “A” shape specifically, it's important to give the wider part enough room towards the bottom of the hips. If the panties are tight all around and constricting around the thigh or leg area, it's only going to hinder those gorgeous curves! It's a good rule of thumb to pass on boy short panties, small leg openings or any underwear with minimal stretch if you have a pear-shaped butt.
My best advice here is to go for undies with a high-cut leg and waist. This way, you are accentuating your waistline, which is more narrow, as well as leaving room further down for your butt and hips to embody their natural shape, which is wider than the waist. Seamless panties in bikini styles have a similar effect and are a great option for this shape as well!
Best Panties for Your Butt Shape: Square or 'H' Shape
Since so many of these shapes are categorized by a letter, I'll call this one the “H” shape. This particular style of butt usually includes features like high-set hip bones and a width that remains constant from hips to thighs as opposed to being curved. Though this type of booty and hip combination might make it easier for you to fit into certain styles of pants and shorts, it can cause some annoying issues with your underwear.
Let me tell you that there is absolutely nothing worse than attempting to go about a normal day while dealing with a constant wedgie. I'm sure those of you with an “H” shaped butt know this struggle all too well. The root of this problem lies within your overall bone structure and, while this is unchangeable, your underwear can still help you out if chosen thoughtfully. You might think about skipping the traditional boy short panty style in this case because the straight nature of your body does not have much curve to stretch the fabric and only encourages the formation of dreaded wedgies.
If you don't have the curves, then create them! I like to recommend a pair of cheeky panties to accompany square-shaped butts because the panty shape creates more cheek definition. The same goes for high-cut panties or any style that has more of a “V” shape in the back and creates the illusion of more pronounced curves.
Best Panties for Your Butt Shape: Heart
Many (including myself) envy the classic heart-shaped butt, so much so that some of those who haven't been naturally graced with the shape turn to a regimen of glute-enhancing workouts to help create the beloved heart shape for themselves as well. This widely photographed and sought-after shape features an extra bit of curve towards the bottom of the booty and hips, which creates an upside-down heart shape. Those with heart-shaped butts share some similarities in that things tend to get curvier below the torso. These two shapes also might bond over a few underwear faux pas in particular.
I think heart-shaped booties everywhere know the struggle of having to wear panties that are too tight around the cheeks and leg openings, but are also loose and bunchy around the waist. This problem is common if you have a heart-shaped booty but you're wearing the wrong underwear. Skip the styles that favor a straight look like hipster panties or others that sit low on the waist.
When shopping for a heart-hugging style that won't leave you with extra fabric around the waist or a too-tight feel, I recommend going for something that shows off your true shape. A good option is a comfy thong, which won't restrain your hips. If you want a little more coverage, go for a seamless version of bikini or even boy short styles that favor a little more natural curve. This simple switch will leave you feeling comfortable and will allow you to embrace your curvy booty!
Best Panties for Your Butt Shape: Inverted Triangle
Also known as the “V” shape, an inverted triangle-shaped butt narrows closer to the bottom of the cheeks and the top of the thighs. This booty type shares a few qualities with that of the square or “H” shape. Both look great with a little more tightness on the bottom or even a cheeky shape that creates an alternate shape illusion.
Those who have this butt shape might feel like their butt looks small or lacking in proportion. The truth is, it's (literally) all about how you look at it! Since your hips and waist are curvier on top rather than the bottom, the key is wearing a specific panty cut that will create balance and make the bottom of your bum area appear more full and curvy. If the opposite is done and you wear panties with too much coverage on the hips, it will throw off the balance and draw attention away from your beautiful booty!
To avoid imbalance and accentuate the lower part of that “V” shape, I like to recommend adding some more volume down low (closer to the thigh and leg) whenever possible. Consider a fun pair of boy short panties that features a low-rise waistband and smaller leg openings. This will help lift what you have and make it seem as though your hips are slimmer. For an option with a little less coverage to wear with dresses or tight-fitting clothing, go for a similar bikini style that will remain both comfy and invisible underneath clothing.
Best Panties for Your Butt Shape: Round
I used to think that people with round butts could wear pretty much any kind of underwear with ease, no matter what. With such a lovely and pronounced booty shape, nothing could be problematic, right?
Wrong. I learned that there in fact is a set of styles best-suited for round booties, after all. Round butt woes are simply different from other butt shapes, but you'll be glad to know that these are an easy fix just as they are with any other shape. Common issues involving panties and round-shaped butts have more to do with the front of your body more than anything else. Since this type of booty usually protrudes behind the waistline in a more pronounced way, I have learned that it's common to experience pulling or tugging in the crotch area when wearing underwear. Not only is this uncomfortable, but it can also make underwear fabric (and camel toe) more easily seen through clothing. Having said all of that, how should underwear fit on the body when you have a round butt shape?
Thankfully, I have a rather simple answer. The key to a great panty fit on round butt shapes is minimizing fabric in problem areas. This way, you can get the most comfortable fit without all the pulling and tugging. A breathable thong eliminates most problems altogether, though this style might not be ideal for every occasion or situation. In other cases, you might be most comfortable in a boy short style that will cover all or most of the cheek and prevent crotch issues.
The Perfect Panty
You might be looking at your underwear collection right now with wide eyes thinking you have all the wrong pieces. I know it might seem like a lot, but this is definitely more of a guide to point you in the right direction rather than a bunch of rules to live by. You might even find that some newfound styles mesh well with your old favs.
Once you find the best panties for your butt shape that really work for you, don't feel like you have to change it up too much! It's important to stick to wearing undies that don't constrict any body parts. It's also important to wear panties that allow the area to breathe freely and eliminate moisture quickly. Leonisa is proud to offer a wide selection of underwear cuts, styles, sizes and colors made with quality materials, making it easy to find your go-to panty.
